Winner of TOI WriteIndia story contest, Ruchi Singh is a novelist and writes in two genres; romance and romantic thriller. She has a degree in Electronics Engineering and has worked as Quality Consultant in the IT field. She began her writing career writing short stories and articles, which have been published in various online forums. She has been a contributing author to many anthologies and has published her first book Take 2, which is a contemporary romance with a spice of social drama.

Here is an author interview of Novelist Ruchi Singh. Her favorite genres are romance and romantic thriller.

Your real name and pen name?

RS: Both are same. Ruchi Singh

Please share some of the best memories of your childhood

RS: I loved to play on my own, in my own make believe world. For most of the time, my parents allowed me to do whatever I liked. Those were the best times.

About your education

RS: B.Tech, Electronics Engineering

What career did you plan during your education days?

RS: I wanted to be a Kathak dancer till I was about 12years old, but my parents steered me towards being an Engineer, I loved maths too.

What languages you can speak and write?

RS: Hindi, English

What is your biggest source of inspiration in life?

RS: I have never introspected so deeply about my life.

What hurts you most in this world?

RS: At a personal level when my expectations are let down. At a global level people fighting in the name of religion.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced? How did you overcome it?

RS: Probably the engineering entrance exams, in fact, I am scared of all written exams. I overcame it by not thinking about the results.

If you had to live a day of your life as one of the living or dead personality, who would it be and 

why?

RS: Pass

What is your favorite genre and why?

RS: Romantic thrillers, I relish solving the suspense, which is interspersed with a mushy feeling of love.

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?

RS: Since 9 Dec 2013. To entertain my readers and myself.

RS: Romance, and romantic thrillers. Same as the 4th answer above.

What keeps you motivating towards writing?

RS: Two reasons; one, I am transported into another world while writing, which is addictive, second, it gives a high that so many people will read my work.

If Writing a Book is taken as a project, What are the key essentials you take care of in Project Management?

RS: Planning or Plotting, Executing or writing, editing (self and external), marketing

How do you plan, schedule and monitor your writing commitments?

RS: On a spreadsheet

What are your future plans?

RS: To keep churning out entertaining stories.

What is generally your preference in reading – a paper book or ebook? And why?

RS: I am not very particular, as far as it’s an entertaining plot.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?

RS: Plot, Climax, Pace, Language

How much real life goes into a fiction writing?

RS: 2%

Is a high level of imagination important to have for an Author?

RS: Yes, very high level. We live a very regular life. It's the imagination of an author which churns out the drama out of ordinary and invokes emotions.

Your dream destination on Earth?

RS: Some place, where no one disturbs me till I want them to.

Your origin of birth and other countries you have visited/ stayed. What best things you liked in these countries around the globe?

RS: India, USA, UK, Singapore, I love living in India. I liked Singapore a lot because I felt it has best of both east and west.

Favorite time of the day?

RS: Evening and nights

Your zodiac/ sun sign?

RS: Virgo

RS: Sea-green. It's soothing.

What is the last book you finished reading? What is the current book you are reading?

RS: Finished reading - ‘There’s Something About You’ by Yashodhara Lal

       Am reading - ‘Dongri To Dubai: Six Decades of The Mumbai Mafia’ by S. Hussain Zaidi

Your favorite book and why?

RS: ‘The Day Of Jackal’ by Frederick Forsyth. Well, I like spy thrillers and this one was too good with all the twists.

RS: This question has stumped me, there are numerous, I can’t pinpoint one.

Your favorite celebrity and why?

RS: Shahrukh Khan, apart from his charm, he comes across as an intelligent man with a high sense of humor.

Your favorite food?

RS: Anything veg laden with calories

Your favorite sports?

RS: Cricket, Tennis

What is the force that drives you?

RS: Don’t know. Never thought about it.

What comes to your mind when you think of India?

RS: Paradox. Warm people and corrupt politician/ government officials, chaotic and vibrant
