Author Interview: Beverly Ovalle: Lightning Strike: Dragons Mate: A Saints Salvation: Touched by the Sandman

Beverly Ovalle lives in Wisconsin with her husband Edmond of 24 years and two Chinese Water Dragons. Mother to two that are old enough to finally have flown the coop!

Beverly has traveled around the world thanks to five years in the US Navy and has worked for the government in one capacity or another for the past 30 years, from Sailor to Street Walker(my Dad shakes his head at my description of being a mailman) to Pimp, er, Postmaster. Still involved with the military, she is Adjutant for her local AMVETS Post 33.

Beverly has been reading romances since her Aunt introduced her to the gothic romance in the fourth grade and is still reading every chance she gets. Though a romance book addict, she enjoys most genres of fiction. Lucky for her romance can be found EVERYWHERE!

Your real name and pen name?

Beverly Ovalle, I don’t use a pen name

Please share some of the best memories of your childhood.

I used to love riding my bike anywhere it could take me. If only my parents had known how far I used to travel. One of my favorite memories, however, is of my neighbor when I was a little girl, four or five. I used to climb her father’s fence and then climb their apricot trees. I’d eat as many as I could and then visit Dorie. I was always welcome. Dorie was bedridden and loved when I came to visit. I never realized it when I was young, but she had polio. I just knew she and her family always welcomed me.

About your education

I’m a high school graduate. I’ve dabbled in college, interspersing accounting and management classes with sign language and water aerobics.

What career did you plan during your education days?

I always wanted to be an archeologist. I’m still fascinated with the Egyptian culture and the pyramids.

What languages you can speak and write?

I still remember some French from my four years in high school. A smattering of Spanish since by husband and his family are Mexican. My father in law taught me some and my nephew helps me out now and then. When it’s talked around you, you can’t help but pick some up. And just a bit of German, but not a lot.

What is your biggest source of inspiration in life?

I believe it’s the fact that I am happy and content. When I’m not, I can’t seem to write.

What hurts you most in this world?

The fact that there is so much war and hatred. I absolutely hate watching the news. The worst part is knowing that in the US so much of it is sugar coated. If you watch the news online from overseas, it is truly grim. It makes my heart clench to see it and read it.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced? How did you overcome it?

Personally, the miscarriage of my last child. I don’t think you ever really do. It changes you. I mourn every year the day it happened and again around the time my child would have been born.

If you had to live a day of your life as one of the living or dead personality, who would it be and why?

Umm. I don’t know. I’ve never really thought about it. I’m not sure I really want to be anyone else.

What is your favorite genre and why?

I love paranormal. There is such a wide variety of worlds to explore!

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?
I’ve been writing for many years. I’ve only been published for just over a year. I write purely for enjoyment!

Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?

An author turning down a chance to show off? Never!

Dragons’ Mate ~ Today Annie’s dragons will shift and fulfill her every desire, which means a fiery threesome—and true love.

Lightning Strike ~ For generations Levi’s family had guarded a sacred glen in the mountains. Still far from man this isolated area was a favorite spot of his grandfather. Levi grew up listening to his tales and fell in love without ever having stepped foot there.

Now Levi’s family, led by his grandmother, wanted to sell the land. With only his grandfather and Levi against it, Levi has to prove to the rest of the family why they needed to continue their guardianship. Believing in his grandfather’s tales despite himself, Levi went armed with his camera and his well-known expertise behind the lens and headed out for proof.

Providing that proof and protecting the secrets of the glen from the world, Gaia needs to convince Levi to continue that protection. Daphnaie, the embodiment of his every dream, is sent to show him why, stealing his heart in the process to save her world.

A Saint’s Salvation ~ Corporal Nicholas 'Saint' Santiago needs to go home to reclaim the man he used to be. To be the man he was before Operation Enduring Freedom slowly hardened his heart. He needs to reconnect to the values and the reasons he is doing what he does. Saint also needs to try to forget the courageous woman he knows was meant to be his.

Petty Officer Angelina Jones' life changed the moment Saint saved her life. She survived the blast but now has to deal with the fact that she will never be whole. Knowing Saint received a 'Dear John' letter, Angelina has no intention of being his rebound romance. She needs to be loved for herself. She needs to forget about the one man she knows was meant to be hers.

They each try to find someone to help them forget.

But what does fate have planned for them?

Touched by the Sandman ~ A lonely woman's torrid sexual dreams and fantasy partner await her as a dominant reality in another dimension.

What are your forthcoming writings?

I have an erotic western coming in October, Triple D Dude Ranch. In 2015, my first full-length novel, Stealing Hope, has been picked up by Assent Publishing.

What are your future plans?

I have a few more I’m working on and hope to have out this year and next. It all depends on how fast I write. Two are paranormal, one dragon shifter novella and one nymph short. I am also working on another contemporary military book.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book? Food, spending time with my husband, laundry, and the day job.

How much real life goes into a fiction writing?

It all depends on. I write my paranormal in the everyday world around me. I like to try to make it seem that it could really happen.

Is high level of imagination important to have for an Author?

For a fiction author for sure! Who would want to read a boring fiction story?

Your dream destination on Earth?

The pyramids in Egypt. I did mention I’m a bit fascinated with that country’s history.

Your origin of birth and other countries you have visited/ stayed. What best things you liked in these countries around the globe?

I was born in the United States. I’ve traveled to Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Diego Garcia, Tasmania, the frontier of China, Canada, and Mexico.

Your favorite time of the day?

Morning for sure, but sometimes really late at night is peaceful.

Your zodiac/ sun sign?

Aquarius.

Your favorite color and why?

Yellow. I love how sunny and happy it feels.

What is the last book you finished reading? What is the current book you are reading?

I just finished Devious by Mark Love. A wonderful romantic suspense. I’m not reading as I just got back edits for Triple D Dude Ranch and I’m beta reading a historical before I can delve back into something else.

Your favorite book and why?

Dark Fire by Christine Feehan. I love the characters in this book.

Your favorite movie and why?

The Day After Tomorrow. I love the end of the world movies and Dennis Quade and Jake Gyllenhaal is wonderful in this movie.

Your favorite celebrity and why?

Hugh Jackman. He’s hot and I love his character Wolverine.

Your favorite food?

Crème horns. A yummy fattening desert.

What comes to your mind when you think of India?

I think of lots of people and color. Unfortunately, I would never want to visit because I’m also reminded of the absolutely horrible treatment and even rape of women with no consequences. It could be that those crimes are sensationalized like crimes here are, but it would still make me not want to visit.
